Why do plants make flowers?
Let's review our plant parts:
"Roots, stems, leaves, FLOWERS, fruits, and seeds!"
(song by the Banana Slug String Band)
That's right! Plants make flowers because the flowers (after being pollinated by a bee, butterfly, hummingbird, bat, sugar glider, etc...) turn into FRUITS! The fruit contains the seeds and then the plant can regrow! On and on and on and on...!
Look outside your window...what do you see?
This is the beautiful jasmine that is growing right outside of my kitchen window. It smells AMAZING!
*I use the Life Lab "Rule of 10" to guide me: If there are 10 or more blossoms, you can safely pick 1.
Then, I got my science journal and made a 5 minute sketch (use pictures, words, and numbers):
Think about your favorite flower... Why is it your favorite?
Stay safe, Scientists, and stay curious!
